How to stream an IP camera live on the Internet

Got an IP camera and want it live on a website? Here is, step by step, how to go from a local RTSP feed to worldwide HLS delivery.

⚙️ Your streams must be encoded in H.264 (or H.264+) and without any audio track.

1. Get your camera’s RTSP feed

Almost every IP camera (Hikvision, Dahua, Reolink, Axis, Foscam…) exposes an RTSP feed. Its address looks like rtsp://user:password@IP:554/Streaming/Channels/101. You will find it in the camera’s interface or the manufacturer’s documentation.

2. Make the camera reachable from the Internet

Your camera sits on your local network. For our servers to connect, you have two options: a static public IP with port forwarding (forward port 554 on your router), or a DynDNS if your IP changes. See our dedicated guide on public IP and DynDNS.

3. Encode and deliver in HLS

Paste the RTSP URL into the form: our servers connect to the camera, convert the feed to HLS (an .m3u8 link) compatible with every browser, and distribute it worldwide. You get an embeddable player and a share link.

  • No software to install, no server to maintain.
  • Playback on desktop, mobile and tablet.
  • Unlimited viewers and daily timelapse included.
